OnePlus speaker cleaner: remove water and dust

OnePlus phones don't list an official speaker cleaning sound, so use Speaker Cleaner in the browser: media volume to maximum, Dolby Atmos off for the run, bottom edge facing down, one to three 30-second runs. If it's still muffled after drying for 24 hours, book a check at an authorised OnePlus service centre.

Run Speaker Cleaner

Where the speakers are on OnePlus phones

Hold the phone so the speaker you're cleaning faces the floor.

  • Main speaker: the grille on the bottom edge, beside the USB-C port.
  • Earpiece: the slot above the display; stereo models use it for media too.
  • Some budget models have a single bottom speaker, so only the bottom edge matters.

OxygenOS does not document a built-in speaker cleaning sound, so OnePlus phones use a browser-based cleaner. Set media volume to maximum, disconnect Bluetooth earbuds, and switch off Dolby Atmos in Settings › Sound & vibration for the run so its sound processing doesn't change the low tone.

Clean your OnePlus speaker in 4 steps

  1. Open Speaker CleanerIn Chrome or your phone's own browser. Disconnect earbuds.
  2. Volume to maximumMedia volume, not ringtone volume.
  3. Speaker facing downBottom edge down for the main speaker.
  4. Press StartPlay up to three 30-second runs.

To clean a OnePlus speaker, open Speaker Cleaner in the browser, turn media volume to maximum, hold the phone with the bottom speaker facing down and play one to three 30-second runs. The 150 to 200 Hz sweep pushes water and loose dust out of the grille without any app.

Apple's guidance for wet phones applies just as well to Android: don't use rice, an external heat source or compressed air, wait at least 30 minutes before charging, and allow up to 24 hours of air-drying.

OnePlus water resistance varies by model

OnePlus ratings differ a lot between models and generations, so check the specification page for your exact phone. Whatever the rating, it describes how well water is kept out of the inside of the phone. It doesn't stop water collecting in the speaker grille, which is what makes the sound muffled, and the seals weaken as a phone ages.

A water resistance rating on a OnePlus phone does not stop water collecting in the speaker grille. If a OnePlus speaker sounds muffled after rain or a splash, clear the grille with one to three 30-second runs of a low-frequency cleaning sound, then let the phone air-dry for up to 24 hours before testing again.

If the sound doesn't come back

Let the phone air-dry for 24 hours, then test again. If it still crackles or stays silent, book a check at an authorised OnePlus service centre and tell them what liquid it was and what you've tried. See also when to repair and speaker cleaner for other phones.

Frequently asked questions

Does OxygenOS have a speaker cleaner?

We haven't found an official OxygenOS speaker cleaning sound. Speaker Cleaner works in any browser on OnePlus phones.

Should I turn off Dolby Atmos?

Yes, just for the cleaning run. Sound processing can change how much low-frequency output reaches the speaker. Turn it back on afterwards.

Is it safe for my OnePlus?

Yes. It plays within the phone's normal volume limit for 30 seconds at a time.
